There Is No Secret Sauce!
Despite what marketers might tell you, no secret sauce will turn your writing into an income-generating machine. But don’t despair—there are a few things that will work well, and I know this because I’ve been generating an online income from them for years.
Keep It Simple
If you take only one thing away from this article, it’s to keep it simple, not overcomplicate things, and not try to be clever.
Write Articles
Create a Daily Newsletter
Link to ONE offer.
That’s the formula for success.
You articles inform and attract your audience. You newsletter goes deeper and shares what’s working and your offer help people implement what you’ve taught.
That’s it.
Lets look at those three points.
Build a Writing Habit.
This is the hardest thing you’ll do, but it is worth the effort a thousand times over. Today, I am heading into Marbella at 9, so I got up early to write this because I know I’ll regret not writing if I don’t.
It’s second nature, and the more I do it, the easier it gets.
Start by writing short 200-400-word articles; do that every day. Then, once you find that easy, write longer pieces. You’ll struggle to think of content ideas at first.. ask Chatgpt for ideas, I usually feed it one of my articles and ask it to identify “Knowledge Gaps” I’ll then get 10 or more ideas for articles,
Write every day for 60 days, and you will develop a writing habit. After that, settle on a frequency that suits you. For me, that is Monday through Friday.
Create One Offer
This has held me back for years. I had a lot of offers and products I could sell, and that spread me too thin. I couldn’t focus on one offer, so I tried to sell everything and ended up selling nothing (or very little).
Create ONE offer that will help your audience implement what you teach. I did this by creating what I called the All Access Pass that gives access to everything I have from Books to Coaching and charging $99 for it. It will never make me a millionaire but it will give me “Happy Money” and allow me to continue living the life I love.
It doesn’t matter what your offer is, it could even be an affiliate offer for a product you use but just create one and focus on that… do that and sales will come.
Link To Your Offer
This is the part that many people inexplicably forget to do. And it’s the most important par.
Create a call to action and direct people to either:
A) The next step in the journey
B) Your offer
You can direct your readers directly to your offer from your content, but by far the better way is to direct them to a newsletter or an email list, and then you can promote your offer from there.
I would have suggested an email list for years and then sent regular emails, but over the past few years, I have preferred creating a weekly newsletter and pointing readers to that. I do this simply because it is easier to give in-depth training and guides in the form of a weekly newsletter. Plus, it’s fun to write one each week, and that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Ensure you link to your newsletter in every article, ideally to related editions and give more in-depth information… Just like this:
