Be Yourself & Write Content That Connects

When you sit down to write, there’s only one thing your audience really wants: you.

Not a perfect, polished version of someone else.

Not a copy-paste of trends or generic advice.

They want your voice, your story, and your perspective.

So whatever the reason you write, just write and be yourself.

If you write for the joy of writing, do it. If you write because you want to sell something, do it, If you write to keep you mental health on an even keel do it, but when you write be you.

I got told off in the comments of a recent article because I said that your writing could lead to different opportunities. It seems that some people think that you can’t be a writer if you want to feed your family…. Be YOURSELF!

Write for whatever reason you want.

Here’s how embracing your true self can transform your content and help you build the life you’re striving for.

Be Yourself

Ever read a piece of content and felt like it’s so generic it could have been written by anyone?

Don’t let that be your work.

People crave authenticity, and the only way to deliver it is by showing up as you.

Think about it, if you were chatting with a friend at a café, you wouldn’t speak in clichés or repeat someone else’s words verbatim.

You’d share your thoughts, opinions, and personality.

Your writing should feel the same.

Stop aiming for perfection and focus on connection.

Write as if you’re talking to a friend.

That’s how you create content people want to read.

 Share Your Story

Your story is your superpower.

No one else has lived your life or seen the world exactly as you have.

Sharing your journey—the wins, the losses, the lessons learned—builds trust and connection.

For example, I often share stories about selling doughnuts on a nudist beach in St. Tropez when I was younger.

Why?

Because it’s a part of who I am, (and a damn cool job for an 18 year old!) and it shaped my entrepreneurial spirit.

It’s relevant to the life I’ve built and shows my audience what’s possible.

Even the everyday details you find mundane can captivate others.

What you do, how you think, and why you’ve chosen this path matters.

Tell your story.

 Be Honest About Challenges

Everyone loves a success story, but let’s be real, nobody succeeds without challenges.

If all you share are your wins, you’ll come across as either insincere or unrelatable.

Take my journey, for example. At one point, I was earning $400 a day and growing fast. But within months, I lost everything.

That failure was one of the hardest moments of my life, but it taught me lessons that have shaped my success since then.

Be honest about your struggles.

Show your audience the full picture.

It’s not just inspiring—it’s real.

Stick to Relevant Opinions

Your audience wants your thoughts—on topics that matter to them.

If your niche is email marketing, share your take on email platforms, strategies, or trends. Avoid straying into unrelated or divisive topics like politics or personal drama.

Keep your content focused and valuable.

Your readers come to you for your expertise, so give them your best insights on what you know.

Build Real Connections

Your content isn’t just about what you say—it’s also about who you connect with.

Engage with your audience. Reply to comments, start conversations, and show genuine interest in others’ work.

Don’t be afraid to reach out beyond your own platforms.

If someone’s content resonates with you, let them know. A few good words are far more valuable than a pithy comment. If you don’t like something move on… Ignore it. You never know what the person at the other end is going through, if you can be kind walk away.

Share other peoples  work, join their community, or simply tell them you appreciate what they do.

Real relationships amplify your impact.

 Be Human

Perfection is overrated.

Your audience doesn’t want flawless; they want human. Share your quirks, your mistakes, and your victories.

Be approachable and honest.

When you embrace your humanity, your content stops being just another post and starts being a conversation. That’s where the magic happens.

Finally

Being yourself isn’t just good advice, it’s the foundation of creating content that connects.

Don’t try to be someone you’re not.

Don’t chase trends or try to please everyone.

Do embrace your unique voice, share your story, and engage authentically.

When you do, your content becomes more than just words on a page.

It becomes a gateway—to connections, opportunities, and the lifestyle you’ve always wanted.
